Kent retired in 2017 after working in public accounting for 40 years. His practice areas included income and estate tax planning and he developed special expertise in personal financial planning. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of South Carolina. He has served on many boards over the years, including as Board Chair of the PhD Project and most recently as Board Chair of the North Carolina Outward Bound School. After his retirement, he became an instructor for Outward Bound. He and his wife, Linda, began regularly visiting Pisgah when they bought property in the Catheys Creek area in 1997. They’ve enjoyed hiking, running, biking, backpacking, and climbing in Pisgah ever since then. They live in Travelers Rest with their two dogs.
“My favorite thing about Pisgah is the diversity of recreation options in the forest. There is something for everyone. Trail running, hiking and backpacking rank at the top of my list, and I’m especially fond of the Cedar Rock area. The new Butter Gap Shelter that TPC played a large part in the rebuild of is a great spot.”
