Pen graduated from NC State University in 2026 with a bachelor’s in environmental science. They particularly enjoy working with wetland and stream ecosystems. During their college career, they worked with native bees, designing and planting pollinator gardens around their campus. They also worked at the Durham Museum of Life and Science, educating the public on native plants, animals, and insects, as well as endangered species like the red wolf. For their senior capstone project, they worked with a team to create new educational materials about ghost forests for the Core Sound Museum at Cape Lookout.
