Join MountainTrue, The Pisgah Conservancy, Friends of the North Fork of the French Broad, American Whitewater, and Headwaters Outfitters for a land-based (not paddling) volunteer trash clean-up along the North Fork of the French Broad River within Pisgah National Forest.Â
We will all meet at Headwaters Outfitters’ shop at the intersection of Highway 64 and 215 and shuttle up to one of the gravel pull-offs where we will go over the plan, distribute supplies, and hike in along the existing trails. From those trails, we will collect, bag, and remove garbage from within and along the river. Assuming it is shallow enough on the day of the event, we will be able to cross the river by foot to collect garbage from the far sides of the trail.
Please wear closed-toe shoes, clothes that can get wet and dirty, and bring drinking water, snacks/lunch, and a change of clothes for afterwards. Trash bags, gloves, safety glasses, and some hand tools such as shovels, loppers, hand saws, rakes, etc. will be provided, however, feel free to bring your own if you would like. Large backpacks would also be helpful if you have one to bring. We will have a dumpster staged at the trailhead for the disposal of collected garbage.
Following the event, we will gather at Headwaters Outfitters’ Forks of the River Taproom for a celebratory beverage and afterparty.
All participants MUST pre-register so we know who to expect and ensure we adhere to safety standards.
