In Spring 2025, the NCDOT completed the construction of a new pedestrian bridge over the Davidson River near the forest entrance on Highway 276.
In Spring 2026, the City of Brevard hired TPC to construct a short path connecting the Davidson River Pedestrian Bridge to the future sidewalk that the NCDOT will construct as part of the future roundabout construction project near the forest entrance.
The TPC Trail Crew constructed the pathway using large flagstone pavers set in a herringbone design. The pathway is 10.5 ft wide to allow for easy two-way traffic. In addition to constructing the pathway, our Trail Crew:
- Resurfaced sections of the trail to ensure proper drainage
- Added a border of large flagstone to help with containment
- Constructed a small retaining wall
- Added a sitting rock for users to enjoy the riverside vistas
Although it’s a short section of trail, this project is an important piece in the completion of major infrastructure improvement projects connecting the community to Pisgah National Forest.
This includes the construction of the Davidson River Pedestrian Bridge by NCDOT, future forest entrance roundabout construction and sidewalk improvements by the NCDOT, and our recent rehabilitation of the Estatoe Trail, and native plantings around the bridge site during Pisgah Project Day 2025.
