The first bridge on Caney Bottom trail (near Cove Creek Group Campground) is full of character. Constructed from a planed locust log and accompanied by an angled hand rail, it sets the tone for the peaceful and simple path.
During our Trail Crew’s initial inspection of the site as part of our post-Helene damage assessment work, the crew noticed the log bridge had been washed away from its original location and was moved down the stream.
Our crew rebuilt the abutments for the single-log stringer bridge to rest on. They then used a cable grip hoist and a rope puller to pull the dislodged bridge back into place atop the rebuilt abutments.
After the bridge was positioned correctly on the abutments, our crew secured it in place and refastened a hand rail.
