Some of my earliest and most formidable memories were formed in the magnificent Linville Gorge Wilderness and the mysterious Shining Rock Wilderness. I feel indebted to the mountains of WNC for providing me with a constant source of presence, groundedness, creativity, and clarity. From as far back as I can remember I have been formulating some plan to go explore the sprawling forests, ridgelines, and watersheds of WNC.
Growing up in Hickory, NC, I would walk up a hill by my childhood home where one can find a framed viewshed of the Linville Gorge's Table Rock, some 40 miles away. I would dream of the next adventure to be had among those mountains. Flash forward 25 years, and I am profoundly grateful to have a permanent home here in these mountains, sharing time between Brevard and Asheville.
In recent years PNF has experienced unprecedented growth in visitation/users, making it a critical time to appropriately manage the increasing traffic and overcrowded access points. The Pisgah Conservancy consistently leads successful projects that focus on sustainable improvements to PNF's trail systems, access points, and the overall well-being of the forest. The well-being of PNF is directly related to the well-being of our mountain region and the wonderful people that call it home. I am honored to be a part of TPC'S Board that is made up of individuals who share the same drive to preserve and protect the well being of PNF and its future.
