I began visiting Pisgah Forest on a regular basis in 1997 when Linda and I bought property in the Cathey’s Creek area. Hiking and trail running allowed us to explore many parts of the forest and to do it across all four seasons. We’ve also backpacked and mountain biked, and I’ve done some climbing. After retiring from business, in 2019 I became an Outward Bound instructor. I’ve had the joy of seeing students (from 8th graders to college students to educators and professionals) experience traveling and living in the forest, many for the first time. As students learn camp-craft and outdoor skills they begin to more fully appreciate the beauty of the natural world and recognize the impact that humans have on it. I’m glad to be part of the Pisgah Conservancy’s efforts to enhance and protect the forest both now and for future generations.
